Japan a focus for distributor

Personal care is a fast growing business within DKSH chemical distribution activities and the Swiss-based company is strongly committed to further strengthening the organisation in Japan and to triple sales within the next five years.

As a first step, DKSH Japan has hired the industry specialist, Taihei Uchiyama, to run its personal care organisation based in Tokyo. Henceforth, he and his team are implementing a business expansion strategy that focuses on overall growth activities by acquiring new suppliers, strengthening relationships with key suppliers, and expanding the customer base. Moreover, DKSH Japan plans to enlarge its product portfolio, ranging from high-priced to lowpriced materials, thus be able to flexibly cater to the unique needs of the R&D frontlines of Japanese cosmetic companies. High-quality cosmetics ingredients made in Japan will be promoted on the global market by exploiting the global DKSH network, which spans 610 business locations in 35 countries. And finally, domestic cosmetic makers who primarily plan to enter Asian markets, will be supported with market reports and DKSH’s market expansion services portfolio, including marketing, sales, distribution, and after-sales services. This business strengthening plan has been elaborated as a response to DKSH’s decision to focus on Japan and China as priority markets for its personal care business. The Japanese beauty and personal care market ranks second in the world in size (JPY 3,798 billion) and is expected to expand further since companies from other industries and mail-order firms are actively entering the market.
