Carbomers are widely used as rheology modifiers and suspending agents in the personal care industry. They stabilise and thicken formulations like gels, emulsions or surfactant based applications. The standard carbomer types are available as powders.
Tego Carbomer 140 G was introduced by the product line Personal Care of Evonik in North America at the New York Society of Cosmetic Chemists Suppliers’ Day.
The new product is an excellent viscosity adjuster, viscosity builder and emulsion stabiliser. It is the first carbomer on the market that is based on n-heptane and ethyl acetate, which are class 3 solvents according to Pharmacopoe Européenne and to USP. TegoCarbomer 140 G is especially suitable for cosmetic or pharmaceutical emulsions and gels.
“The granulated quality of Tego Carbomer 140 G offers numerous advantages compared to standard powder types,” states Dr Sascha Herrwerth, technical manager, Rinse-off. “It causes low dusting and offers a high flow ability. The bulk density is 3.5 times higher compared to powder types, which
leads to a reduced shipping volume.”
The performance of Tego Carbomer 140 G is comparable with conventional powder type products, but it is easier to disperse and easier to handle. TegoCarbomer 140 G is soluble in both water and alcohol and can be used over a wide pH range. It is very quickly dispersed in water without the formation of lumps. It is especially suitable for the preparation of clear water or alcohol-based gels, for the preparation and stabilisation of creams, lotions and suspensions and is also recommended for the manufacturing of high viscous emulsions.
