Regeneration is the innate capacity of living beings to repair themselves by the beneficial use of their own resources. Preserving this property is a key strategy for ageing well and in good health.
Long restricted to the cutaneous system, regeneration of the skin is now described as a complex process requiring the participation of the vascular system and the immune system.
The fibroblast in particular plays a pivotal role by interconnecting the three biological systems via the secretion of a pool of growth factors. These factors are placed under the term ‘fibroblastregenerating complex’ and have a positive action not only on the activity of keratinocytes but also on that of immune and endothelial cells.
