Ingredients focus: fragrance technology

Fragrance is a vital aspect to personal care products. The scent can transmit a sense of geography, luxuriousness, gender, mood as well as provide a signature fragrance that can act to enhance a brand.

However, new technology is starting to become an integral part of formulating with fragrances. As regulations tighten on the use of preservatives, more formulators are looking to use multifunctional fragrance ingredients that can also offer a level of preservation. Other ingredients offer fixative benefits to ensure longlasting fragrance, while others mask the odour of other ingredients.

This round-up of current ingredients to aid formulating with fragrances aims to give formulators a helping hand through an area which can sometimes prove troublesome (particularly with natural fragrances) though equally can be highly rewarding.
