The US Personal Care Products Council (PCPC) has appointed Dr. Jaap Venema as chief scientist and executive vice president, science, effective 3 November.
Venema brings more than 35 years of experience across academia, the pharmaceutical sector and nonprofit leadership.
He recently served as chief science officer at the US Pharmacopeia (USP), where he led scientific strategy and quality standards development for medicines, biologics, dietary supplements, food ingredients and health care practices, and was instrumental in modernizing quality standards and spearheading initiatives in advanced manufacturing and digital health.
“Jaap brings deep expertise and strategic vision that will further PCPC’s leadership in scientific rigour and evidence-based advocacy,” said Tom Myers, President & CEO of PCPC.
“He has a keen ability to navigate complex scientific landscapes while staying focused on public health and industry impact,” he added.
“His collaborative style and global perspective make him an ideal partner for our member companies and the international cosmetics and personal care products community.”
Venema holds a doctorate in molecular biology from the University of Leiden, Netherlands.
He speaks multiple languages, including English, German, Dutch, French and Spanish.
