Belgian startup AmphiStar has been awarded a new €2.5m ($2.9m) funding package by SPRIND - Germany’s Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation - to accelerate continuous manufacturing of its sustainable microbial biosurfactants.
The SPRIND funding will allow AmphiStar to advance its continuous fermentation technology and accelerate the commercialisation of new biosurfactant molecules, which are produced through the microbial upcycling of bio-based waste feedstocks into sustainable, market-ready ingredients.
“This renewed SPRIND support demonstrates strong confidence in AmphiStar’s vision and technological potential," said Dr. Sophie Roelants, COO and co-founder of AmphiStar.
“The funding will help us to optimise our continuous fermentation process further and unlock the next phase of commercialisation, bringing truly sustainable, waste-based biosurfactants closer to mainstream markets.”
Pierre-Franck Valentin, CEO of AmphiStar, added: “This funding strengthens our ability to deliver high-performance, circular ingredients that reduce environmental impact and accelerate the transition to a low-carbon, sustainable economy.”
AmphiStar has previously received SPIND grants of €2m last year and €1.5m in 2023.
