Event returns with new look training packages

The first two new look FormulaCare training packages were presented on Tuesday 6 December and Tuesday 13 December 2011. They have been developed as a trial training package to enable formulators to understand how to use this new tool.

The aim is to provide skills and knowledge for those who wish to work in the formulation and promotion of products used for skin care. Many other training programmes have been developed not only for skin care but all aspects of the personal care industry, such as hair care formulations, toiletries, colour cosmetics etc. More information on these courses will be available in the next few months. For people working in a cosmetic manufacturing company, contract manufacturer, consultant, distributor/agent or chemical ingredient supplier, this new training could be for you. In particular, if your role is in the following fields:

• Laboratory technician.
• Laboratory manager.
• Laboratory quality control technician.
•  Marketing.
• Technical sales.
• Business development.

The first training package on 6 December was focused on ‘Reducing Age Spots’. The training looked at: What are the supportable claims? What roles do formulation and use instructions play? How do we measure skin colour? What actually changes? What is the role of photography? For how long should we test? Where and when should we test? How do we express change? The second training package was entitled ‘Formulating for Maximum Efficacy’. This presentation outlined the basic problems getting an active ingredient (or drug) to enter the skin via topical absorption through the epidermis. It discussed the physical problems preventing this, associated with the skin’s natural barrier system, the rate of absorption and how we can modify this process to enhance absorption for skin rejuvenation or reduce absorption in the case of sunscreens. The product parameters discussed were the emulsifier, the emollients, the formulation type, the drug itself and the additives that can affect skin penetration. Particular examples used explained the effects of skin lighteners. For more information on this training see www.formulacare.com
