IMCD Group is the first distributor to be awarded the prestigious Lean & Green award. The award is a part of the innovation programme Sustainable Logistics by Connekt, an independent network of companies and authorities, collaborating to achieve a sustainable improvement in mobility.
Connekt supports 250 leading companies, so called “front runners”, in the field of sustainable transportation of goods. The Sustainable Logistics programme was initiated by the Dutch Ministry of Transport and it supports logistics companies in their efforts to significantly reduce CO2 emissions while increasing profitability. Stan Bijsterveld, IMCD Group supply chain manager, explains what the company had to do in order to comply: “IMCD is one of the ‘front runners’ which are companies within the network of shipping companies, hauliers, distributors and councils, that have committed to reduce their CO2 emissions by at least 20% in 2012.” In order to achieve these goals, IMCD supply chain has investigated the combination of the flow of goods, enforcing sustainability requirements on suppliers and reducing the number of unloaded kilometres in collaboration with hauliers and customers.
