Saffron for anti-ageing

As shown by the importance of customs, folklore and local food trends, consumers are increasingly paying attention to the origin of the products they buy, wanting to rediscover lost regional heritage and participate in preserving traditions.

Spices have always been a source of fascination, desire and passion. They have inspired the world of cosmetics thanks to their colours, scents and many properties recognised by traditional Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine. Crodarom has chosen to focus on prestige by selecting the most precious of all spices – saffron – and preferring a source of French origin to combine local sourcing with French know-how for this often adulterated red gold spice. In India, saffron, also called Kesar, is well known to Indian women for its fortifying and antiageing properties. Crodarom French Saffron is obtained from the stigma of the Crocus sativus L. This plant grows against traditional vegetation cycles. Unlike most flowers, it blooms in the autumn and its leaves dry out at the end of spring. Saffron is recognised for its crocin and crocetin content, pigments with anti-free radical properties that give it its brick red colour. The stigma also contains some flavonoids with antioxidant and soothing properties. Saffron has proven to be a perfect ingredient in an anti-ageing range with concepts focusing on radiant skin and the first signs of ageing.
