A new silicone resin from Dow Corning forms a flexible, durable film that is resistant to wash-off and rub-off, allowing formulators to create long-lasting, comfortable colour cosmetics. Dow Corning MQ-1640 Flake Resin is a blend of two silicone resins that easily spreads to a breathable, yet water-repellent film.
“Whether consumers choose colour cosmetics that are bold or understated, they look for extended wear and comfort on the skin,” said Fiona Schuller, skin care market analyst, Dow Corning Life Sciences. “The new silicone resin also helps colour cosmetics maintain a fresh look, with enhanced colour intensity and shine.”
The patented technology of Dow Corning MQ-1640 Flake Resin is based on a unique blend of MQ (trimethylsiloxysilicate) and T propyl (polypropylsilsesquioxane) silicone resins in flake form. The MQ silicone resin forms a harder, more brittle film, while the T propyl component contributes a tacky, softer film with enhanced organic compatibility. This optimised blend combines lasting performance with film flexibility and gives a pleasant feel on the skin.
Dow Corning MQ-1640 Flake Resin was developed for use in a range of colour cosmetics as well as skin care and sun care products. In sunscreens, it can potentially improve SPF due to good compatibility with sunscreen actives and improved wash-off resistance.
