The BSB European Innovation prize for cosmetics 2010 was awarded in Paris during the incosmetics show. DSM Nutritional Products won the third prize with Syn-Hycan, in the category “Naturals/Actives”.
By boosting the production of hyaluronic acid in the dermis, Syn-Hycan firms skin from the inside. It also increases decorin and lumican levels, two important proteins present in human skin which improve collagen fibres by making them thinner and stronger. The two modes of action work together to reduce wrinkle formation and skin sagging, the most visible signs of ageing. Scientific trials have provided convincing evidence of Syn-Hycan’s efficacy in remodelling facial contours. When tested in normal human fibroblasts, Syn-Hycan peptide was shown to increase skin-identical hyaluronic acid synthesis by a factor of four, while also boosting production of decorin (+73%) and lumican (+66%). The product also boosts hyaluronic acid production in keratinocytes of the epidermis, which leads to a nice “moisturising from within” effect. “The moisturising ingredient hyaluronic acid, like our Hyasol BT, benefits from very high consumer awareness. Syn-Hycan helps our customers to develop many new applications for hyaluronic acid and develop new marketing strategies,” says Dr Goede Schueler, senior business development manager for skin care, DSM Nutritional Products. “Customers like its versatility and superior performance in stimulating hyaluronic acid biosynthesis.”
