Gabriel Khazaka, CEO and founder of Courage and Khazaka Electronic GmbH, Germany, one of the leading manufacturers of skin testing instruments, was honoured in September for his lifetime of work by being appointed an honorary professor of the University of France-Compt, Besanon, France.
The ceremony took place during the ISBS meeting (International Society for Biophysics and Imaging of the Skin), organised by Prof. Philippe Humbert from Besanon. Gabriel, as the only non-scientist, was honoured along with other important individuals from around the world (Prof. Albert Kligman and Prof. Howard Maibach from the USA, Prof. Ronald Marks from the UK, Prof. Gerald Pirard from Belgium and Prof. Hachiro Tagami from Japan). A very touching address about his achievements was given by Dr Bernard Gabard from Switzerland. Gabriel Khazaka was born in Damascus, Syria, in 1943 and came to Germany in 1962. He obtained his degree in business administration in 1971 at the University of Cologne. After working for 15 years in the pharmaceutical industry, he founded Courage and Khazaka in 1986. The company was one of the first to produce practical and affordable instruments for the objective measurement of the skin.
