Discover, learn and network at UK event

Before scientists and chemists use anything in their professional work, what’s the first thing they do? They gather as much information as they can, from as many different sources as possible. SCS Formulate will take place at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry on the 18-19 November.

This event is an ideal option for many things that scientists and chemists need who are working in personal care formulation and development. It is the most comprehensive source of information, data, knowledge and experience available in the UK this year. It is possible to gather information without leaving the place of work – via the internet for example. However, while the internet has undoubtedly made this process quicker, it still takes valuable time – time to assess, check and verify because information from the internet may be of uncertain origin and trustworthiness or be inexact or incomplete. For many scientists, their education and training conditions them not to accept things at face value. They need to experiment, test, evaluate, analyse, compare, probe. To do that scientifically, it is important to have access to verifiable sources of data, the experience of others (if it is available) and access to a supply of the materials and equipment needed. SCS Formulate is that source. The dynamic mix of eight seminars, over 40 technical presentations, Genius product feature and the raw materials, ingredients and services of over 150 suppliers displayed in the exhibition offers every attendee the chance to identify new ideas and solve problems with the ability to find and check data from a wide range of sources. See it. Touch it. Feel it. Smell it. Taste it. Discuss it. Know it. At SCS Formulate it is possible to meet people face-to-face, ask questions, get answers, discuss and debate. More importantly, visitors can read more than just the product description, technical spec and corporate information: they can assess the person’s expression, tone of voice and all the other myriad non-verbal signals that help to generate the full picture. As scientists and formulators, every attendee wants to be sure they’re sourcing ingredients that they’ve seen, touched, smelled, tasted, discussed – sensory experiences that, wonderful as it is, the internet has never made possible, and never will. In fact, the only place anyone can fully research and understand ingredients in this way in the UK this year is at SCS Formulate.

More reasons to attend

In the current commercial conditions, it can be tricky justifying time out of the office. But attending SCS Formulate gives a crucial new perspective on your work, and our industry as a whole – as well as providing an opportunity to find new sources of supply at competitive rates. Getting away from the office or lab for just a day lets you see things with fresh eyes, absorb new ideas and influences and escape the distractions that so often disrupt the creative process. And as well as a broader view, SCS Formulate also gives you a more balanced one, with thousands of ingredients from over 150 suppliers on display – a profile that also allows you to get the best possible value from your ‘shopping list’ of current needs. Armed with this complete overview of what is available to you in the UK market, you’re able to make confident, well-informed decisions when you return, as well as save money. And entry to the exhibition is free. What more could you need? If there is more, then SCS Formulate has plenty to offer. The Source presentations are free to attend, too. These presentations are where you’ll find definitive answers to technical questions from people who make the raw materials and ingredients you work with every day. Meanwhile in The Knowledge, experts with many years’ experience will cram their knowledge into a series of ‘How to…’ seminars. If you’d like to attend any (or, indeed, all) of these sessions, you can do so on a pay-as-you-go basis, ensuring you make the best possible use of your budget. An outline of the programme is shown in the panel below: Since the market doesn’t stand still, neither does SCS Formulate. This year, a new feature is introduced, simply called ‘Genius’, which presents the newest, most radical or most innovative products on display in the exhibition in one dedicated area. These are this year’s must-see ingredients, presented by suppliers direct from their cutting edge cosmetic science and application research. Visitors to SCS Formulate can make the Genius display the first thing they visit when they arrive, then go to the relevant exhibitor stands for more facts and firsthand information about performance benefit and formulation advances.

Easy to get to

With travel budgets under as much pressure as time, we’ve deliberately chosen the Ricoh Arena as the new venue for SCS Formulate. Located on the outskirts of Coventry, it has superb road, rail and air links to all parts of the UK, so wherever you are, you’ll find we’re really not far away. A more accessible location means you spend less time on the road and more time seeing what you want to see. And new, modern facilities mean that the SCS has been able to enhance the content, offering even more value to a visit.

Not long to wait now...

SCS Formulate is now just a few weeks away, so if you haven’t already done so, now’s the time to register to attend and start planning your visit. It’s really easy to do both via the event website (www.scsformulate.co.uk), where you’ll find an online registration form and full details of what to do and who to see when you get here.
