in-cosmetics Munich was a good venue and big success for Flavex Naturextrakte both by number and quality of visitors interested in supercritical botanical extracts.
Great interest was found in the new products millet seed oil and wheat bran extract, both certified organic. The millet oil has 1.5% miliacin. It stimulates cell proliferation and has a healing property. Wheat bran extract has a high content of phytosterols, tocopherols and tocotrienols. It provides nourishing, smoothing and anti-ageing efficacy.
Other big topics were rosemary and sage antioxidants which have at the same time antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory efficacy, classic products such as calendula and camomile which received a facelift in the form of supercritical extracts but also more exotic extracts from Schisandra berries or rhatany root. Also CO2-extracted essential oils were requested, e.g. from cardamom, ginger, lavender or cinnamon, providing a pleasant smell to cosmetic products already in low dosage.
Generally a trend was recognised towards natural or organic certified ingredients. Even fair trade extracts have been an issue. They might be interesting since the hurdle for fair trade labelling is reasonably low with 5% fair trade components in leave-on cosmetics and 2% in rinse-off products. This represents probably a new promising market niche.
