Mumbai PCHi highly successful

PCHi, India's first major international ingredients event was held on the 14 and 15 November 2006 at the Grand Hyatt Exhibition Land in Mumbai.

Dedicated to the ingredients market of personal care and household cleaning, it proved a resounding success. Richard Hesk, PCHi exhibition director, Reed Exhibitions, was delighted with the number of exhibitors and visitors to the show. He said: “Over 60 exhibitors were able to showcase many new ingredients and more than 1,500 visitors came to learn about them.”

Phillip Logan, business director, Personal Care Asia for ISP added: “PCHi in Mumbai has highlighted the changing demands of Indian consumers and allowed us to communicate quickly to a large number of customers in this fast growing market.”

Akiko Okawa, product specialist, Nalco Japan, said: “The show was very successful for us. We received many positive enquiries from customers who were looking for raw materials to upgrade their formulations.” The most popular subject for visitors’ enquiries was for hair and skin care, revealing an increasing desire for new technology that can be applied in the Indian market.

Vince Ungvary, marketing director Asia for Dow Corning, commented: “I was extremely pleased with the attendance at PCHi and our booth was very busy on both days. From our analysis, 90% of the attendees were from India with 10% coming from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Russia, Africa, Bangladesh and ASEAN countries. Most of the interest shown was in new products for hair care, in particular our new range for leave-on conditioners and also skin care/colour cosmetics. The quality of the attendees was excellent and shows how well the Indian personal care market has developed in recent years. We will definitely be at the next PCHi show in India.”

More than 150 paying delegates attended the Scientific Conference organised by the Indian Society of Cosmetic Chemists and Reed Exhibitions. The demand for places at the conference far exceeded expectations and extra seating had to be supplied. Speakers at the conference during the two days were also pleased with the high level of questions received regarding new products and technology.

Anil Chopra of Lakme Lever delivered the keynote address. He discussed India in the future and the growing consumer market, focusing on the increase in income levels and changing consumer spending patterns. The Scientific Conference and Technical Focus presentations organised by Reed Exhibitions were also well received.

Dr Arunasiri Iddamalgoda of Ichimaru Japan commented that he was thrilled with the level of attendance at his presentation on New Strategies for Anti-Ageing Skincare. Ashish Shinde, national sales manager for Croda India, said: “Croda was looking forward to an international quality event in India for the personal care and home care sectors. PCHi provided us with the ideal platform to showcase our products and capabilities as an international supplier into these industries.”

Due to the overwhelming requests received from visitors and exhibitors, Reed Exhibitions will return to Mumbai in 2007. Richard Hesk said: “It is a privilege to be part of the growing Indian personal care and household market and Reed Exhibitions are very proud to be able to support the Indian society and the personal care market in general.”
