Thai Ethoxylate Company Limited, a 50:50 joint venture between Cognis Thailand Limited and PTT Chemical Public Company Limited, has inaugurated a new facility in Rayong, Thailand, that will produce fatty alcohol ethoxylates mainly for customers in the home and personal care industries. This new plant will strengthen the company's position as the leading producer of fatty alcohol ethoxylates and help it meet increasing global demand.
The Thai Ethoxylate plant is located in Rayong, southeast of Bangkok, close to a deep-sea port. Ease of access to shipping and road links, improves the company’s access to other raw materials.
Dr Manope Kerdlappol, director and acting managing director, Thai Ethoxylate Company Limited, said: “Thai Ethoxylate is the country’s first manufacturer of fatty alcohol ethoxylates, a key raw material for the personal and home care business. The opening of the plant signifies the country’s reduced dependence on this once-imported raw material. This means annual savings of over $27 million for the country.”
Levent Yüksel, group vice president of Cognis’ Business Unit Care Surfactants and Alcohols, said: “Thailand’s position as the region’s major manufacturer of personal care, hygiene and cleaning products means Thai Ethoxylate has excellent prospects for the future and is assured of a stable domestic customer base. The plant uses production technology and safety as well as environmental management procedures that have already proven their worth in use with Cognis.”
