Trealix features the protective action of trehalose, which is found in a large variety of higher organisms, but not in humans, and it is synthesised as a stress-responsive factor when cells are exposed to environmental irritants like heat, cold, and radiation. It has been classified as a kosmotrope or water-structure maker and its strong interaction with water is thought to be bioprotective, by preventing the denaturation of proteins which would otherwise degrade under environmental stress.
Trealix is also made by hydrolysed vegetable proteins obtained by enzymatic hydrolysis from vegetable sources. They mimic the composition of the Natural Moisturising Factor (NMF), thereby promoting the maintenance of normal moisture levels in the stratum corneum. Being enriched in hydroxyproline, they also provide a supplement for collagen synthesis.
In vivo tests have demonstrated that Trealix is able to rapidly improve skin hydration and promote a long lasting skin moisturisation.
