The 11th Asian Societies of Cosmetics Scientists Conference was held in Bali earlier this year at the Sanur Paradise Plaza Hotel. For Indonesia, this is the second time that they have had the privilege of being host country of the Conference.
‘Cosmetic Science in Asia Perspective’ was the theme and the Conference and it attracted 274 delegates from 12 countries within the Asia region. Countries represented were Indonesia (126), Korea (54), Japan (36) and Taiwan (29). Also in attendance were participants from Australia, China, France, India, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and Thailand. The first day of the conference presented a Plenary Session with four renowned speakers in cosmetics science, they were Dr Retno I.S. Tranggono (Ristra Indolab- Indonesia): ‘The Skin Lightener Cosmetics Trend in ASEAN Market: Are They Aware about UV Radiation in the Tropics?’, Shinji Inomata (Shisheido – Japan): ‘Cosmetic Safety Assurance – Current and Future Prospects in Japan’, Tae Ryong Lee (AmorePacific – Korea): ‘Bioresearch for Development of Skin Care Products’, and Gavin Greenoak (Australian Society of Cosmetic Chemists – Australia): ‘Australia and the Asia Marketplace’. During the three days of the Conference a total of 69 oral presentations and 70 posters covering various aspects of cosmetic science relating to Asian skin were given. The topics were divided into six categories namely, evaluation and formulation technology, material science, physiology of skin, whitening and sunscreen, as well as anti-ageing. It is expected that the 11th ASCS Conference will contribute to the ongoing promotion and development of cosmetic science in Asia including Indonesia. The 11th ASCS Conference was supported by Indonesia’s Ministry of Health, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, National Agency of Drug and Food (BPOM), and a number of companies from the health sector, namely Unilever, Natasha Skin Clinic Center, Indokemika Group, Surya Prima Natura, Mandom Indonesia, L’Oreal Indonesia, Multi Indocitra, Larissa and The Body Shop. The 12th ASCS Conference in 2015 will be held in Australia.
