Magic added to formulations

Cornelius Personal Care had a magic theme to their stand at this year's SCS Formulate, showing customers how to add a magical touch to all their formulations.

As well as having magician, Robert Fox, performing amazing table top magic tricks and stunning visitors with his mind-reading skills, concepts were presented in magician's top hats covering the six key areas for personal care formulators, along with ingredient suggestions and samples developed and produced in the Technical Quality and Regulatory (TQR) centre, allowing visitors to touch, feel and try the products.

The Skin Care hat gave details of how Silab's extensive range of actives can be used to reduce the signs of ageing and improve skin radiance alongside emollients from the BASF portfolio and an 'Instant Eye Serum' using Pecosil G from Phoenix for a luxurious, silky skinfeel.

The Colour Cosmetics hat focused on the BASF pearlescent pigment portfolio including the recently launched Chione HD range for a high definition effect and the new Timica Colour range of cost effective pigments. Cornelius also captured the trend for neons with Radiant Color's Dermaglo range of fluorescent pigments. Perfect for colour cosmetics applications, Laurel wax and Genuine Rice Bran wax from  wax supplier. Strahl and Pitsch. were also highlighted.

In the Toiletries hat, ideas for the new trend of home spa treatments were shown alongside an extensive natural ingredients offer and 'no tears' formulations. The new temporary hair colour range, Biofusions, from Teluca were also included, showing how easily they can be incorporated into products.

The trend for light textures and tan enhancers were the focus for the Sun Care hat together with details of the company's UV filter offer, Uvinuls and Tinosorbs, and various SPF products developed in house in the TQR and utilising Jeen's Jeesperse CPW range of cold process waxes.

For Hair Care, styling was identified as the fastest moving sector of this market allowing the new innovative thickener Luvigel FIT, from BASF, to be promoted in some clear formulation samples with extreme hold properties. Rita's material PEO-18 was also shown in a formulation for men's hair, 'Chewwit Gum', where its texture enhancing properties were emphasised.

Finally, the sixth hat covered Textures and materials which can enhance and alter the glide and after-feel of products. Products shown included materials from Jeen, Phoenix and some gelled massage oils using an innovative new wax blend from Strahl and Pitsch.

Joanne Johnson, Cornelius head of life sciences, UK, said: "SCS Formulate was a great success for Cornelius, with lots of interest in our magical theme and innovative product concepts. Our team of personal care experts were accompanied by a magician who wowed the visitors with his tricks and mind reading ability. It was a great way to bring some fun to the show whilst also show casing our excellent product offer from our global partners".
