Advanced protection from microfine titanium dioxide

"Our skin is our most visible feature and the most susceptible to the damaging effects of the sun’s UV rays. It is important then, that we protect our skin from these effects to maintain both our health and our beauty. One way to do this is through the use of sunscreens." -Maria Theresa Luna-Lumain and Kimberly Smith – DSM Nutritional Products

DSM developed the industry’s first effective and globally approved organic UVA filter, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Parsol 1789 and the first polymeric sunscreen, Polysilicone-15, Parsol SLX. Now, the company has launched an inorganic UV filter, Parsol TX, with a unique combination of benefits.

This new development is a breakthrough in microfine titanium dioxide offering the most comprehensive solution for formulating suncare products with TiO2. While titanium dioxide has long been a desirable and effective sunscreen, it has been accompanied by undesirable effects such as residual whitening (this is manifested by the uneven white film or streaks on the skin which are not cosmetically appealing), discoloration, dispersion difficulty and an incompatibility with other UV absorbers, including 1789.

For the first time ever, one grade of microfine titanium dioxide provides the answers to all these issues, and more. It works synergistically with other UV filters to deliver high in vivo SPF as well as UVA protection with 1789. The key benefits of the new product are excellent transparency, complete photostability, ease of formulation, elegant skin feel, and full compatibility with 1789.
