Symrise sent an international group of its top perfumers to Yunnan Province on its second Scent Expedition. The expedition enabled the talented noses to discover the smells, tastes, and sights in different areas in the Yunnan and Jiangxi provinces, the botanical garden of China.
The senior perfumers started the week-long expedition in Kunming, travelling to Yuanjiang, Luliang, and Jinxi. They visited fresh flower markets, tuberose, jasmine and gardenia fields, orris plantations, bamboo forests, tea factories, and raw material processing plants, among others. In addition to triggering inspiration, the goal of the scent expedition is to create understanding for the culture and market of the consumer – how they live, where they shop and where they work. Perfumers must smell and know the local products to link them to the products and raw material basis they know. This way, they can offer consumers of each country suitable fragrance solutions. The Scent Expedition to China is part of the Symrise “Perfumers’ Academy”. Now in its fifth year, it was established to provide continuing education for the company’s perfumers.
