Two botanicals launched

Indena launched two new botanical ingredients for cosmetic products at in-cosmetics 2011 in Milan. Xilogel is a natural polysaccharide from tamarind (Tamarindus indica) while Omegablue is an oily extract obtained by clean CO2 extraction from wild bilberry (Vaccinum myrtillus L) seeds.

Xilogel is endowed with anti-ageing and hydrating properties. Most recent clinical trials have underlined its moisturising capability, the improvement of skin elasticity, and microroughness and showed its great potential in terms of anti-ageing capacity and enhancement of skin density. In addition, Xilogel offers an optimal sensory feeling thanks to its high molecular weight allowing the formation of viscous gels. Clinically tested, Omegablue has been developed as a topical soothing agent for sensitive skin and as a skin and hair restructurant. It leverages on the four decades’ experience of Indena on bilberry Vaccinum myrtillus L fruits that grow wild in the boreal uncontaminated Northern European forests. It contains sebum-like essential fatty acids forming a protective barrier from external agents. Its major components are linoleic and alpha linolenic acids. While linoleic acid is involved in the mechanism of cutaneous hydration, exerting a plastic-structural role for the skin, alpha linolenic acid has a major antiinflammatory effect. The extremely light and silky touch, its naturalness as well as its unique fatty acids composition with a balanced ratio between omega 3 and omega 6, make Omegablue an innovative cosmetic active.
