French cosmetics active maker Silab has found its Longevicell active ingredient demonstrates a positive action on sirtuins, a group of proteins that are linked to skin ageing.
Longevicell is a natural anti-ageing active ingredient obtained from myrtle leaves, which target sirtuins and their coactivators (NAD+ and AMPK).
By acting on these key players for improving longevity, it favours cell mechanisms required for the skin’s youthful appearance for smoothing, radiance-boosting and anti-wrinkle effects, visible as of 14 days on the face and body.
Sirtuins’ effect on longevity depends on the availability of the coenzyme NAD+, required for the correct mitochondrial functioning and the production of energy, and of AMPK, an energy sensor that protects cellular metabolism.
Thanks to new studies conducted on different models of epidermal and dermal ageing, Silab has demonstrated the transversal action of Longevicell on sirtuins 1, 3, 6 and 7 and their coactivators (NAD+ and AMPK).
The active ingredient has thus positive effects on many mechanisms linked to ageing, in particular by improving mitochondrial activity and limiting glycation and the onset of cell senescence.
Due to its favourable impact on these cell mechanisms, Longevicell limits protein oxidation and boosts the production of cellular energy at the level of the epidermis, while improving the quality of the dermal matrix.
As of 14 days, these effects are shown by remarkable benefits to the face and body: the skin of Caucasian and Asian volunteers is smoothed, and complexion radiance is revived.
In addition, after 28 days, the skin gains in elasticity and firmness, and wrinkles are attenuated. These benefits are perceived by Caucasian volunteers themselves: 100% of them find their skin smoother (body) and more luminous (face) and 95% of them consider this care to be an anti-wrinkle product.
Silab’s development of Longevicell involved the optimal use of oligogalacturonans present in the leaves of myrtle.
Native to the Mediterranean Basin, myrtle is a shrub appreciated for centuries for its capacity to glorify beauty. In antiquity, Greco-Romans in particular used the essential oil of myrtle to prepare a floral water called “angel’s water” with the capacity of restoring freshness and youth to the complexion.
Silab has selected Moroccan suppliers certified for organic agriculture for its sourcing.
