Australian botanical extract manufacturer Native Extracts has appointed Dr. Joseph Nastasi as lead research scientist of biomaterials and phytochemistry.
His current research focuses on the application of high-resolution mass spectrometry platforms for the profiling of secondary metabolites in foods and plants.
In addition, Nastasi (pictured, left) also has research interests in the development of biopolymer materials containing natural plant additives for food, cosmetic, and medical applications.
The move comes as the Alstonville, New South Wales outfit expand its metabolomic profiling of Australian native plants and non-native botanicals.
Nastasi will be leading a new ingredient category as it transition into biomaterials, from R&D to commercialisation.
“This is an exciting opportunity for our customers to leverage Joe's depth of phyto-chemistry knowledge for upcoming NPD projects,” said Native Extracts owner Lisa Carroll (pictured, right).
“After working on research projects together for four years, today we are so happy to make it official, and can’t wait to release some of the exciting R&D we have in store for 2024 and 2025!,” she added.
“The Native Extracts team and I are driven to take plant profiling to new levels, with new analytical data, testing technology, new target botanicals along with new delivery systems."
