Cosmetics Europe has launched the COSMILE Europe app, which gives access to detailed information on around 30,000 ingredients used in cosmetics.
The database is designed to help European consumers understand why certain ingredients are in their cosmetic products and which properties they have.
Available on Google Play and Apple Store, the free app is available in eight languages (Dutch, English, French, German, Hungarian, Polish, Romanian and Spanish), with more to come.
After downloading the app, the user can search for ingredient information by scanning the ingredients list on the label of a cosmetic or personal care product or search for information on an individual ingredient manually.
The app offers users the ability to track and therefore avoid ingredients to which they have an allergy.
The app also has an ‘Insights’ section answering frequently asked questions on cosmetic ingredients and providing information on how UK and EU cosmetics legislation ensures cosmetics and personal care products are safe.
“As an industry, we are committed to providing information on the ingredients in our cosmetic products in a simple and easily accessible way. Now with the COSMILE Europe app, with its new ways of searching and tracking ingredients, accessing this information has never been easier,” said Cosmetics Europe director-general John Chave.
“We hope this tool will contribute to helping European citizens choose their cosmetic products,” he added.
