The rising focus around eco-conscious formulations, naturally-based ingredients and recycling options has been intensified by the climate change movement and the impact of declining resources. We are seeing a focus on refillables, compostables, reusables, solid formats, upcycled ingredients and better transparency.
Advances in ingredient technology are leading to the development of a range of new more sustainable and recycled materials including cell culture, bioengineered microbes and fermentation. Many of these new developments allow for the production of ecofriendly ingredients with transparent supply chains and carbon neutral claims. Sustainability, and what it means for beauty and personal care, is becoming clearer and more meaningful.
