Holistic hair care innovation

Croda has developed a hair care ingredient that delivers instant sebum reduction on the scalp from the first application, among other advantages. The results are shared in this article

Sebum is an oily substance composed of various materials, including triglycerides, wax esters, squalene and cholesterol, secreted by the sebaceous glands in the skin.1 As a result, the scalp can become oily, just like facial skin.

The production of sebum is a normal biological function for us all and is essential to maintain scalp wellness. It can provide a protective barrier against external aggressors and help to maintain moisture within the hair and scalp at an optimum level, while also supporting healthy hair that is smooth and shiny.2

In the same way that we all have different skin types, from dry to oily to combination, the level of sebum naturally produced on our scalps can also vary, with more than one quarter of the world population suffering with excessive scalp oiliness.3 However, genetics are not the only contributing factor; hormonal fluctuations and changes in our external environment can also be responsible for an increase in scalp oiliness.4
