Elkem has finalised the acquisition of a new organo-functional silicones plant from Thor at Salaise-sur-Sanne, near its existing facility and its research innovation centre at Lyon in France. This follows of months of production trials.
Frédéric Jacquin, senior vice president in charge of the Silicones division, said that the facility “helps strengthen Elkem’s position in key, high-value speciality markets by bringing new manufacturing capabilities and additional capacity”
Silicones are used are typically used as additives at low levels in formulations to enhance performances and bring efficiencies, with personal care high among the end use markets. the new plant will focus initially low-volatile cosmetic-grade alkyl- and polyether-modified silicones, later progressing to include additional functionalities for other applications.
