Evonik has agreed to buy Swiss-based plant extract producer Botanica and will integrate it into the Care Solutions business line within the Nutrition & Care division. Terms were not disclosed.
Botanica also has a presence in France and Germany. It was founded by the Wälti family in 1998, employs 43 and has a portfolio of over 1,000 different plants available for extraction. These are certified according to Swiss Organic Produce Regulation, ISO 9001 and CSE sustainability standard, including ISO 14001
Evonik described this as “the next logical step for the Care Solutions business line as it transforms into the leading actives partner for the personal care industry”. It had previously acquired cosmetic delivery company Infinitec Activos, InnoHealth, Wilshire Technologies and Alkion Biopharma.
“By drawing on Botanica’s plant know-how and extraction competence, Evonik will innovate a wide range of sustainable base extracts in order to strengthen its broad portfolio of actives,” the company said. It will also help Nutrition & Care aims to increase the proportion of ‘system solutions’ in its offer from 20% to over 50% by 2030.
