Soap-free syndet presentation to open in-cosmetics seminars

UK-based global speciality ingredients manufacturer Stephenson will showcase its new soap-free syndet called, Syndopal, at in-cosmetics Global 2019, opening the exhibition with a seminar entitled ‘Syndet: The Revolution.’

Experts from Stephenson will launch the annual three-day exhibition in Paris by informing delegates of how more than five years of research and development led to a global first in the syndet market with the creation of an ultra-mild, 100% soap free, pH 5.5 base noodle.

The seminar featuring expert technical and industry insight from Michaela Daubney and Paul Pickering on 2 April will officially launch the exhibition and demonstrate how the product is creating fresh opportunities within the personal care and cosmetic sectors. Stephenson revisited the production process to overcome the longstanding problem of manufacturing traditional flaky and brittle syndet bases.

According to Stephenson, many manufacturers do not have access to the specialist equipment required which means that their product range capability and profitability is restricted.

Jamie Bentley, CEO of Stephenson commented: “Syndet bases are notoriously difficult to work with due to their brittle structure, unlike normal extruded soap noodles. This rules out production for many manufacturers as they just don’t have the specialist equipment capable of doing the job.”

Stephenson have been working on Syndopal for over five years with the objective of creating a high-quality base that enables contract manufacturers and brands to add value to their existing product portfolio. Technology, innovation and science have led the firm to create the innovative new base, with the capability of manufacturing syndet using existing extruded equipment.

Jamie Bentley added: “We realised this was a real challenge for many of our customers who wanted to expand their range and create a soap-free products but couldn’t due to how difficult it was to process and manufacture syndet. We knew that if we could develop a base that was more like traditional extruded soap noodles, we could help our customers access and open up new markets, add value and offer their own customers something different through product diversification.

“We are very much looking forward to showcasing Syndopal to an international audience at in-cosmetics along with Durosoft, a unique range of naturally derived glycerol esters which provide natural alternatives to synthetic ingredients found in many cosmetic and personal care products.”
Syndopal  is a soap-free, ph 5.5-6.5 base noodle, which produces an ultra-mild syndet bar, ensuring superior cleansing to produce premium quality syndet or combi-bars, which gently remove dirt, oil and make-up without disrupting the skin’s natural barrier.

As well as being 100% soap free and ultra-mild, other key benefits for consumers include its suitability for sensitive skin, non-irritant, non-drying, paraben free and peg-free.

Concludes  Jamie Bentley:  “Cosmetics brands and manufacturers benefit from improved processability compared with alternative syndets in the market. As Syndopal processes like an extruded vegetable soap noodle - with no dust and excellent production throughput this results in vastly improved productivity such as increased run rates, better yields and cost savings.

“To add here, we are entering a period of change in the market place with demand for sensitive skin products, the resurgence in bar soaps and solid shampoos plus growing pressures to reduce packaging and waste.  All of which are changing the landscape for manufacturers.

“In summary, Syndopal really does open up the sector for manufacturers who previously would not have been able to manufacture syndet bars previously, across cosmetic, pharmacy and mass market applications.”

‘Syndet: The Revolution’ will open the seminar programme at In-Cosmetics on Tuesday 2nd April, 09:30 – 10:00, in Theatre 1. Visit our seminar and stand B81 to find out more about our new innovations in natural ingredients and bases.
