Low carbon award celebrated

Croda International Plc are celebrating winning the Low Carbon Award at the Chemical Industry Awards, recognising how carbon management and sustainability are at the heart of their decision making and strategy setting.

Croda received this award for their stretching carbon emission intensity reduction target, which is underpinned by their continuing investment in increasing energy efficiency and moving to more non-fossil energy sources across their operations.

A key part of the company’s carbon reduction story is their increase in the proportion of energy from non-fossil fuel sources, which has risen from 3.9% in 2007 to 24.1% at the end of 2017. Projects include solar panel installations at three of their global locations, onsite bio-gas generation in the Netherlands, a wind turbine at their Hull site and heat and power from landfill gas in North America.

The Chemical Industry Awards, held this year in Newcastle, is the largest event of its kind for the UK chemical industry and is designed to highlight and promote excellent performance at company, site and individual level.

Terry Thistlethwaite, Vice President Sustainability at Croda said: “Sustainability is fundamental to our business strategy and we very proud to have our efforts acknowledged in this way. Our carbon reduction journey sees us continuing to invest in sustainable and innovative product design, which includes a focus on our manufacturing operations, and working with our supply chain to develop ingredients that deliver more benefit, with less environmental impact.”
