Ingredients shortlisted for Innovation Zone Best Ingredient Awards

Ten of the cosmetic industry’s most exciting new ingredients have been selected as finalists in the in-cosmetics Asia Best Ingredient Awards.

The shortlist includes a bio-active hair enhancer, a natural neuro-balm for skin and a natural gelling agent that provides a silicone-like skin feel with the winner to be announced at the show on Wednesday 1 November.

Five ingredients, featured in the exhibition’s Innovation Zone, have been nominated in each of two categories – Active and Functional. The finalists were selected for the combination of scientific excellence, formulation benefits for manufacturers and efficacy for consumers exhibited. The chosen 10 also boast innovative qualities when compared to products currently on the market.

They were selected by a panel of industry experts including Belinda Carli, Director of the Institute of Personal Care Science; Barbara Brockway, Personal Care Director at Applied DNA Sciences New York and PhD Biochemist; Dr Alain Khaiat, President of Seers Consulting and winner of the first in-cosmetics Lifetime Achievement Award in Paris in April 2010; and Dr Karl Lintner, Independent Consultant to the Cosmetics Industry, President of KAL’IDEES S.A.S and winner the second in-cosmetics Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013. 

The five finalists in the Active Ingredients category are:

TEGO Pep 4-Comfort by Evonik Personal Care
TEGO Pep 4-Comfort is a tetrapeptide specially designed to address the key symptoms of sensitive skin. Its benefits include balancing skin to reduce inflammation, soothing sensitive areas and reducing cutaneous over reactivity.

ResistHyal by Givaudan Active Beauty 
ResistHyal is a revolutionary bio-active hair enhancer acting on keratin infrastructure to enhance all hair beauty features at once. It works based on the natural ability of hyaluronic acids molecules to capture free water and maintain a local moisturisation on biological surfaces. It is the first active ingredient to control frizz, add shine and protect hair fibre against pollution.

Revivyl by Givaudan Active Beauty 
Revivyl shows unique properties to act at several levels of the skin rejuvenation cycle. It is the first holistic skin renewal accelerator to activate and protect skin stem cells, boost cellular metabolism and the differentiation process and also maintains skin microbiota.

DEFENSIL-SOFT by RAHN AG
DEFENSIL-SOFT is a novel extract from the edible mushroom Albatrellus ovinus and acts as a natural neuro-balm for normal and hyperalgesic skin by blocking the TRPV1 receptor and thereby elevating the pain threshold of the skin. Irritated, burning, tingling skin is calmed within minutes.

SUBLIGANA by SEPPIC Asia
SUBLIGANA is a titrated extract of Harungana madagascariensis. Addressing blemished skin, it showed a significant reduction in whiteheads. It associates soothing effect (lipase inhibition, IL-10/IL-12 regulation), anti-oxidant effect (lipid peroxidation protection) and dermopurifying effect on Propionibacterium acnes.

Finalists in the Functional Ingredients category are:

TEGO Feel C 10 by Evonik Personal Care
TEGO Feel C 10 is a natural and eco-friendly ingredient for cosmetic applications.  It is natural cellulose with 30 µm average particle size and can improve absorption, mattify and reduce oiliness on skin and also can absorb human sebum.

TEGO Solve 90 by Evonik Personal Care
TEGO Solve 90 is a Cosmos/Ecocert-certified, propylene glycol-free, PEG-free and preservative-free solubiliser for perfume and essential oils. Based on polyglycerol technology, it is readily biodegradable. TEGO Solve 90 shows a significant higher solubilising efficacy, and up to 50% less usage level could be achieved in formulations. 

AJK-IS by Kokyu Alcohol Kogyo Co
AJK-IS is an innovative premix of amino acid based oil gelling agents. It is suitable for lip tint sticks as well as other solid cosmetics.

Siligel by Lucas Meyer Cosmetics 
An optimised patented combination of phospholipids and polysaccharides, Siligel is a natural gelling agent providing a silicone-like skin feel with high resistance to electrolytes and hydrating properties. The versatility of Siligel™ leads to several applications from thickening and stabilising to co-emulsifying. 

ARON NT-Z by NIKKO CHEMICALS CO 
ARON NT-Z is superabsorbent polymer that is specifically modified for cosmetic use. It can hold water more than 20 times its dry weight and releases it when applied on skin. The polymer adds a unique sensation of watery touch with elastomer-like finish and a soft-focus effect. 

Gold, Silver and Bronze winners in each category will be announced at a reception taking place from 5:15-5:45pm on Wednesday, 1 November in the Innovation Zone at in-cosmetics Asia, Bangkok.
