Ingredients focus: cosmetic waxes and butters

Waxes and butters can provide personal care formulations with a wide range of benefits. From thickening, hair styling, and moisturising, to exfoliation and gloss enhancement.

Butters can be derived from numerous seeds, fruits and vegetables and are semisolid fats that remain solid at room temperature. The type of benefit provided to consumers differs according to the source material but all butters provide rich sensory qualities to cosmetic formulations.

Waxes also have a multitude of uses in the personal care industry and are perhaps the original ‘skin protector’, creating a shield over the skin. They provide structure and texture to a variety of formulations while floral waxes also add pleasant aromas.

Following is a small selection of these products currently available on the market.
