Lipotec’s Actiguard advanced botanical ingredient was a finalist at the first ever Best Ingredient Made from Recycled Materials Award presented at the recent inaugural in-cosmetics North America event in New York City.
This award recognises the work of the ingredient developers in making more sustainable products to help the personal care industry be more ecologically responsible.
Actiguard advanced botanical ingredient is a sustainable extract obtained from sorghum bran, with calming and anti-irritation properties that aids in soothing overly reactive skin. The pretreatment with this natural ingredient during efficacy assays reduced significantly the neurosensory irritation and relieved the stinging sensation of sensitive skin.
Sorghum is a gluten-free cereal used since ancient times and considered the fifth most important cereal crop in the world. It is sustainable due to its high efficiency in using water and nutrients as well as in terms of conversion of energy. The ingredient is obtained from the bran of sorghum, which is a byproduct of the grain milling, removed before it can be used for food and feed.
