Revolymer has acquired Itaconix Corporation. The acquisition brings together Revolymer’s technical platforms to design novel polymers, with Itaconix’s expertise in the manufacture of itaconic acid polymers.
These qualities when combined with the application and formulation knowledge of both companies promises to deliver significant benefits to the combined customer base.
In the home care and industrial sectors, polymers have been developed as chelants for water conditioning, dispersant and scale inhibition agents, encapsulation agents to help stabilise actives such as sodium percarbonate, as well as adhesion promoters for high performance sealants and adhesives.
In personal care, both companies offer complimentary technologies that provide conditioning benefits in rinse-off formulations, moisturisation, enhanced delivery of fragrances and actives in skin care, and longevity of actives and whiteness protection in oral care.
For the personal care market, RevCare Natural Effects, based on naturally derived itaconic acid, is an effective film-forming polymer for hair styling formulations and offers soft, flexible hold that is robust even under the most demanding of humid conditions. Zinador from Itaconix is another itaconic based polymer providing effective residue-free odour neutralisation.
The combination of product lines positions Revolymer’s as a leading player in itaconic acid based polymers and enhances the company’s overall portfolio to give an even stronger platform from which to develop and formulate novel polymers and encapsulation technologies. “The acquisition is a key step in realising Revolymer’s strategy of building an innovative and differentiated specialty chemical company. Itaconix represents an extremely complimentary business in terms of markets and products and also provides a presence in the important North American market,” said Kevin Matthews, CEO.
