Cosmetic properties of comb-like PU film-formers

Polymers serve multifarious purposes in cosmetic formulations. The applications take advantage of the various properties of polymers to impart uncommon benefits to their formulations. The range of properties is as varied as the class of polymers that have been utilised.

 Natural polymers, synthetic polymers, organic polymers as well as silicones are used in a wide range of cosmetic and personal care products as film-formers, emulsifiers, sensory additives, thickeners, dispersants, emollients, etc. Using polymers, cosmetic chemists can create high performance products.1 

The continuous development of new trends in the cosmetic market and more specific and diversified claims for the products means a constant need for the creation of new and more sophisticated formulations, with unique and refined benefits and exclusive special effects. The design and development of optimised polymers in a close collaboration with formulators of cosmetic products is one of the approaches for innovation in this field. The direct knowledge of the products, of the structure of formulations, of the main ingredients used and of the needs that can improve the cosmetic performances, is very useful to fine tune unique and very specific raw materials. 

Colour cosmetic chemists typically use film-formers as a main ingredient in makeup formulations to improve the ‘transfer-proof’, ‘long-wear’, ‘waterproof’ and ‘gloss’ claims.
