Gattefossé has welcomed three beehives, each containing 50,000 bees raised in Pérouges (Ain), which have been installed on the Saint-Priest site.
Bees play an essential role as a major pollinator, accounting for 30% of our food (fruits, vegetables and oilseeds). In France today, bees are dying at a rate of 30% per year (compared to 5% to 10% 20 years ago).
There are several reasons this has happened, such as global warming and the appearance of new predators, but the widespread use of pesticides has also become a factor.
Given this situation, Gattefossé decided to become actively involved in biodiversity preservation and the safeguarding of a threatened species by welcoming these beehives onto the site. Nicolas Masurel, the entrepreneur behind la Ruche Urbaine, will be responsible for the upkeep of the beehives.
The Saint-Priest site employees will be invited to take part in awareness and introduction to bee-keeping workshops.
