Merck KgaA has announced the expansion of the Ronastar product family with five new interference pigments for cosmetic and personal care products. Making their debut are: Aqua Sparks, Green Sparks, Purple Sparks, Red Sparks (based on particle sizes of 20-200 µm), and Silver (10-100 µm). Their vivid effects impart an especially appealing aesthetic to cosmetic and personal care products.
Aqua Sparks displays the colour of the sea. A refreshing, revitalising turquoise is the dominant colour, with flecks of green to green-blue to blue tones adding variation. Green Sparks has a lively, vivid green combined with a special gleam. It sparkles with warm red and yellow-green multicolour effects. Purple Sparks has an elegant, deep purple interference effect amplified by nuances of red, blue-green and violet glitter.
Red Sparks combines a royal, radiant red, delicate multi-colour glitter effect, and intense lustre. The result is a pigment with a subtle interference colour shift from pure red to copperyred. Silver has an astounding silver-white lustre that is enlivened by colourful glitter effects and a powerful lustre. Besides the extraordinary visual effect, Silver also shows good light stability. These characteristics allow for the use in self-tanning formulations in combination with dihydroxyacetone as well as in applications like lipsticks, nail polishes, eye liners, eye shadow and care products. Concentrations as low as 0.05% can display a strong lustre effect in transparent formulations.
