Quantifiable volume results for hair

With its innovative specialty silicones and formulating expertise, Dow Corning is responding to a growing trend for products that increase hair volume. To further support product development, Dow Corning has added an imageanalysis system which quantifies the effect of select Dow Corning brand silicones on hair volume.

“The trend is back to bigger, fuller hair styles, and launches of hair care products that claim volume or body enhancement have grown 21% per year since 2007,” said Brian Marinik, global strategic marketer, Dow Corning Life Sciences. “At the same time, ageing populations are seeking ways to build volume into their hair, so we expect this trend to continue.” Specialty silicones from Dow Corning are recognised as effective hair conditioning agents that improve wet and dry combing, enhance hair strength, provide heat and colour protection, and impart softness and shine. While sensory testing has proven that certain silicones can make hair appear fuller, Dow Corning’s new image analysis system can quantify the volume increase. Several Dow Corning silicone materials were evaluated in rinse-off formulations. They were found to provide significant volume increase in addition to demonstrated conditioning and other benefits:

• 949 Cationic Emulsion, for intensive conditioning and colour protection.
• 5-7113 Silicone Quat Microemulsion, for intensive conditioning and heat protection.
• CE-8170 AF Microemulsion, for medium conditioning and shine.
• 8500 Conditioning Agent, for medium conditioning with options for creating clear formulations.

Dow Corning’s total solution package for hair volumising can help product developers strengthen their brand in the marketplace. At the same time, they can achieve volume and conditioning from a single source.
