Knowledge is power and anyone who wants to stay ahead of the game in the cosmetics, toiletries and personal care industry knows that with new scientific developments constantly emerging and ever-changing regulations, no one in the industry can afford to lag behind.
Taking place in Paris from 13-15 April 2010, in-cosmetics 2010 will feature an extensive educational programme aimed at keeping those in the industry up to date and informed. Attendees can choose to take part in Scientific Workshops, Regulatory Seminars, view Marketing Trend presentations and attend a series of Innovation Seminars throughout the three day event.
Regulatory seminars
Growing regulatory legislation in the EU and Asia has meant that companies within the industry need to be very aware of how these changes may affect them. The two highly informative regulatory seminars at incosmetics will provide them with thoughtful, educational insights into the movement of legislation, including the impact of current and future regulatory changes. Joined by Dr Werner Schuh, director of product safety and sustainability – cosmetics and toiletries R&D at Henkel AG & Co. KGa and Dr Chris Newsome representing the EFfCI (European Federation for Cosmetic Ingredients), Dr Annelie Struessman, technical director of CONUSBAT will lead the first session – The New European Regulation on Cosmetic Products. Taking place on Wednesday 14 April from 09.15 to 13.15 and topics covered will include a look at updated definitions and responsibilities, product safety assessment and the replacement of animal testing, plus non-testing strategies. There is still some confusion surrounding the latest Asian regulations. Dr Alain Khaiat, president of Seers Consulting and vice president of the ASEAN Cosmetic Association, joined by Roger Montigny, Asia Zone coordinator – International Scientific and Technico-Regulatory Affairs at L’Oréal S.A. and Le Chau Giang, regional director of regulatory affairs J&J Asia Pacific will aim to shed some light on this during The Asian Cosmetics Regulations seminar. Running on 14 April from 14.30 to 18.00, the session will cover new regulation requirements in China, developments in Korea and the ASEAN Cosmetic Directive. Practical and insightful, the Scientific Workshops provide attendees with the chance to learn from top experts and help perfect their formulation skills. Judi Beerling from Organic Monitor will look at Preservatives in Cosmetics: The Alternatives to Parabens, covering the controversy surrounding parabens. Professor Dr Gerd Kutz will then discuss Formulating for Efficacy, detailing how to formulate optimal delivery systems and micro-emulsions, choosing emulsifiers and using natural substitutes. Judi Beerling will conclude the programme with a workshop on Formulating Ethical Cosmetics, providing insights on the fair trade cosmetics market, what makes a product fair trade and the major formulation and technical issues. The highly popular and free of charge Innovation Seminar sessions provide a chance to hear about the latest ingredients and formulation techniques directly from the suppliers. Visitors can choose from 44 sessions providing a wide variety of topics including: The Revival of W/0 Emulsions, Navigating the Complexities of Emulsification Selection, Reliability of Supply of Organic Ingredients, and Preservative Solutions for the EU Cosmetic Ecolabel, etc. On the topic of innovation, Mintel will be holding free consultancy sessions and interactive demonstrations at the Innovation Zone. Sessions will take place daily from 11.00-11.30 and 16.00-16.30. The interactive Beauty Food session serves up the newest nutricosmetics and beauty food and beverage from around the globe, handpicked by the Mintel Beauty Innovation team, while Cosmetic Sparks will showcase some of the hottest launches that are pioneering new beauty trends in Japan, China, the US and Europe. Free to attend Marketing Trends Presentations will offer attendees the chance to hear about an array of essential industry topics. One of the highlights will be a panel discussion on How Biodiversity is Transforming the Cosmetic Industry with experts from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development with representatives from the Union for Ethical BioTrade, Natura, L’Oreal and Shiseido. Ethical issues and sustainability will feature prominently within presentations from Organic Monitor, Max Havelaar and Lush.
