UK cosmetics firm Body Shop has come under fire from Christian Aid and the Guardian newspaper due to its trading with a Columbian palm oil company who are believed to have evicted peasant farmers in order to build a new plantation.
The Columbian company, Daabon Organics, provides Body Shop with 90% of its African palm oil and in July was part of a group who legally evicted 123 farmers and their families from the land. The angered farmers claim that many of them had applied to buy the land before the eviction order was issued.
