Solabia makes play for French firm PolymerExpert

Solabia has acquired a majority stake in compatriot French cosmetic ingredient maker PolymerExpert for an undisclosed sum.

Founded in 2000 by Marc Dolatkhani and based in Pessac in the Gironde department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, PolymerExpert makes high performance polymers of natural origin for applications such as skin care, sun protection and make up.

It also develops products for implantable and non-implantable ophthalmic and medical devices.

Dolatkhani will retain a minority stake in PolymerExpert and will remain CEO.

Solabia said the acquisition is part of its strategy to offer a wider range of value added cosmetic  ingredients while giving it new opportunities in healthcare.

“We are very excited to welcome PolymerExpert’s teams to Solabia. This transaction will allow both companies to benefit from their combined know how and offer a broader portfolio of high performance products to a larger customer base,” added chief executive Jean Baptiste Dellon.

“It also fully supports our development strategy and showcases our ability to attract innovative companies into the Solabia Group as we continue to strengthen our business in markets with strong growth potential.”

Dolatkhani said: “The combination of PolymerExpert's specialty ingredients and Solabia's portfolio of active ingredients will bring major innovation opportunities to our customers globally.

“The association with the Solabia Group will allow us to accelerate the development of new innovative ingredients for cosmetics by drawing on complementary expertise. It will also strengthen the development of our medical business over the long term.”
