Cosphatec launches palm oil-free diol

Cosphatec has taken the wraps off Cosphaderm Propanediol natural palm free, a COSMOS and NATRUE-compliant palm oil-free diol.

The Hamburg-based raw material specialist says the new product complements its existing diol range and offers just as many application possibilities in skin and hair care.

Cosphaderm Propanediol natural palm free is a pure, transparent and colourless diol. Produced from the fermentation of non-GMO corn varieties, the product offers unlimited water solubility due to its polar character.

“This property is of great importance for its popular cosmetic use as a moisturiser and humectant. As a non-sticky alternative to glycerine, it can also be used as an emollient or solvent,” said a spokeswoman.

“At the same time, it can help protect a formulation from uncontrolled microbial growth by increasing the efficiency of the preservative system,” she added.

“This product is an ideal choice for product developers and manufacturers of cosmetic formulations who want to avoid raw materials from petrochemical sources or palm oil components.”

The product will be presented at the I Feel Good event in Paris, France on 17-18 September (stand 301) and at Sepawa in Berlin on 25-27 October (stand C415/416).
