BASF has declared force majeure on selected vitamin A and vitamin E products due to a fire at its plant in Ludwigshafen, Germany late last month.
The company said it is in close contact with customers to share updates regarding the supply capability of the affected personal care products over the coming months.
Carotenoid products as well as selected aroma ingredients are also affected until further notice.
The selected aroma ingredients are Ionones, Pyranol, DL-Menthol, Rose Oxides, Ethyllinalool, Nerolidol, and Isophytol R.
The fire occurred in a BASF plant that manufactures aroma ingredients and precursors for the vitamin A, vitamin E, and carotenoid production.
On July 29, an explosion followed by a fire occurred due to the leak of an organic solvent in a BASF plant in the southern part of the Ludwigshafen facility.
All slightly injured employees were able to leave the site on the evening of the incident.
“The incident has unfortunately caused damage to the plant, which led to a shut-down and a supply disruption of the afore-mentioned products. Cleaning, inspection and repair work of the plant has started,” the company said in a statement.
“There was no contamination of air, water, or soil. BASF’s environmental monitoring vehicles were underway inside and outside the site and did not detect any product residues,” it added.
