Brenntag opens green-certified warehouse in India

Personal care ingredient distributor Brenntag has opened a state-of-the-art green warehouse in Sonipat, in the northern India state of Haryana.

Located around 50 kilometres from Delhi, it will serve over 70% of Brenntag’s customers in northern India.

The new warehouse, which consolidates three existing warehouses in northern India, features specially insulated walls to enhance energy efficiency and maximizes the use of natural lighting to reduce energy consumption.

“We are thrilled to be able to push the envelope to reduce our environmental footprint with our green warehouse,” said Dr. Alok Sharman, Managing Director of Brenntag India.

“During the conceptualization phase, we focused on selecting an optimal location with excellent transport connections and incorporating sustainability aspects,” he added.

“We implemented a well-designed natural ventilation system to minimize the need for air conditioning, even in the hot climate of India. Additionally, we installed solar panels and a water harvesting system to conserve resources.”

The facility, a single-story facility with ambient and cold storage space as well as ancillary office space, was designed by Harshna Agro Fresh, an expert in supply chain and logistics solutions.

Harshna has received the prestigious EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) Advanced Certification, in recognition of its outstanding commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices.

EDGE is a globally recognized green building certification system developed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group.

It is designed to help buildings achieve resource efficiency in energy, water, and materials to make buildings more sustainable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly.
