Sasol Chemicals introduces low-carbon biosurfactant brands

Sasol has launched low-carbon biosurfactants for personal care and home care markets available under two new brands, Carinex and Livinex.

Carinex and Livinex sophorolipids (SL) are fermentation-derived biosurfactants offering an extensive reduction in carbon footprint compared with petroleum or bio-based surfactants.

Using Holiferm’s proprietary technology, Sasol’s sophorolipids are fully derived from natural palm-free oils and/or sugars, making them environmentally friendly products without compromising performance.

Specifically for personal care products, Carinex SL is an eco-friendly, natural, multifunctional solution offering advanced scalp and skin care properties for shampoos and conditioners, cleansers, creams and more.

“As Sasol continues to find ways to offer our customers lower-carbon footprint products, we believe partnerships are the key to unlocking and accelerating sustainable innovation and transformation,” said Sasol Chemicals senior vice-president Eric Stouder.

“Combining Holiferm’s advanced technology with Sasol’s unique chemistry and global reach, we can now offer our customers mass produced, high performing and more sustainable solutions at competitive prices,” he added.

In a related development, Sasol Chemicals has agreed a partnership with Solugen to identify additional low-carbon product solutions for personal care, home care and other industries.

Sasol Chemicals will evaluate the effectiveness of Solugen’s proprietary products, blends and derivatives in its household, personal care, and industrial and institutional cleaning surfactant formulations, initially focusing on chelating agents.
