Cosmetic actives ingredient maker Gattefossé has won a prestigious award from the French National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) in recognition of its intellectual property strategy.
The company was bestowed with the INPI Awards trophy for exports at a ceremony held at Institut de France in Paris.
Part of the Ministry of Economics and Finance, INPI recognises French companies that stand out for the exemplary nature of their industrial property strategy.
Founded in 1880, Gattefossé earned revenue of €119.7m ($126m) in 2021, of which around 70% was from exports.
Gattefossé’s products are distributed in 80 countries worldwide and it plans to build a second manufacturing facility in the United States, in addition to its existing technical centres in France, China and India.
It has an R&D budget of €6m and has 18 patent families - 43 French and international patents – and 195 trademarks.
“Intellectual property has always been at the heart of our business. It began over a century ago when my great-grandfather filed our first patents in the 1920s,” said Gattefossé president Ségolène Moyrand-Gros (pictured, centre).
“We file patent applications for all our new ingredients and technologies, in all countries that are important to our business. It takes several years to develop a product and get it integrated into a customer’s formulation, so a robust industrial property strategy is essential for protecting our ideas and safeguarding them over time,” she added.
“This INPI Award is an acknowledgement of the efforts we’ve made in recent years to protect our innovations.”
