Electronics giant Sharp cuts teeth in cosmetics

Japanese electronics manufacturer Sharp has entered the cosmetics business with the launch of its Crystaliq range of skincare products.

The Crystaliq - a combination of crystal and liquid – products have been designed to be used in conjunction with Covid masks. Sharp began selling face masks in March 2020 as a result of the pandemic.

The initial Crystaliq line-up consists of three products, a medicated moisturizing cream, a medicated moisturizing lotion, and a medicated moisturizing emulsion.

The range contains a water-retaining active ingredient (heparinoid) and an anti-inflammatory active ingredient (dipotassium glycyrrhizinate) to prevent dry skin, rough skin, and acne associated with the daily use of masks. It is produced at a domestic partner factory.

In the summer, Sharp will expand its range of skincare products and next year plans to introduce further skincare items and launch hair care products in collaboration with hairdressing and beauty appliances.

“We are planning to develop a skincare business that has a high affinity with masks and connect it to home appliances,” it said.
