BASF albinism cooperation renewed

BASFs Care Creations and NGO Beyond Suncare have renewed an ongoing cooperation that aims to protect people with albinism in Africa through customised sun care products, for another three years. Their work together first began in 2014.

Under the agreement, BASF will continue to supply the required raw materials, including UV filters, free of charge and by providing technical expertise to further improve the formulation. Water and sweat resistance, photostability and suitability for sensitive or damaged skin are among the key considerations, along with manufacturing conditions and packaging.

Beyond Suncare is mainly active in countries like Malawi, Angola and Rwanda, distributing tailor-made sunscreen to people affected by albinism and also working to educate the wider public in these areas. It is planning to build a plant in Malawi and will also work with BASF to develop new formulations that include oils from local African producers.
