The new Baycusan C product line, which Bayer MaterialScience developed specifically for the cosmetics industry, has premiered with a polyurethane (PU) powder and four solvent-free PU dispersions – these grabbed significant attention at the recently held in-cosmetics event in Amsterdam.
Used as an ingredient in cosmetics products, the PU powder Baycusan 1005 imparts an extremely pleasant, silky skin feel. It also ensures that pigment-containing products are especially easy to distribute – without leaving visible traces of colour.
Sensory tests performed by the Dermscan Group have confirmed that liquid make-up formulations containing Baycusan C 1005 are particularly easy to apply and are not sticky. In powder make-up formulations, the new polymer enhances the luminosity of the colours. It also improves the bond between make-up and skin so that the powder does not rub off onto clothing so easily.
The PU dispersions Baycusan C 1000 and Baycusan C 1004 have film-forming properties and impart decorative cosmetics with extraordinary water resistance. Comparison tests showed, for example, that mascara containing Baycusan C 1000 is clearly superior to standard mascara in this regard.
Furthermore, Baycusan C 1000 and Baycusan C 1004 play a major role in the formulation of longlasting make-up, eyeliner, eye shadow, etc that does not feel greasy on the skin. The two new dispersions differ primarily in the flexibility of the films formed.
Baycusan C 1003 is a specialty grade for peel-off masks. The benefit of such masks is that they can be pulled off the skin in one piece and have a light peeling effect, leading to an excellent standard of cleansing. The last of the new beauty ingredients, Baycusan C 1001, was developed for hair styling – the dispersion forms a highly flexible film.
Thanks to film-forming properties, mascara containing Baycusan C 1000 is clearly superior. Tests showed it to be extraordinarily water resistant.
